NO WAY FRANCAIS
Written by: Nilesh Mistry
French-bred horses (the ones with (FR) after their name on the racecard) have provided 30% of the field over the last six years but have just three placed finishes out of 24 to show for it. In both 2007 and 2008 they had eleven entrants but none made the top four. And no French bred horse has won for 100 years – literally, the last one was in 1909. The most prominent French horses in this year’s race are the favourite, My Will as well as Butlers Cabin and L’ami.
