THE RELEASE of a new series of domain names has resulted in a land grab by some of the world’s leading celebrities.

Madonna, Britney Spears, Billy Joel and Brad Pitt are among the stars that have had a ‘.tel’ registered in their name. They join fellow brand-concerned companies such as Microsoft, Red Bull and Starbucks in the new domain series.

The .tel addresses are being offered on a strictly first come first serve basis, not via an auction as with the .mobi and and .me releases. This has increased the desire to snap up sensitive terms.

It’s not just celebrities who can register these new names. The video below is being used by operator Telnic to show how regular-Joes can use the service to maximum effect too.
