It doesn’t seem to be lighting up the charts as much as it clearly should be, but let’s hope it’s a slow-burner…

Either way, Kano features on the official remix (that’s the one above, obviously) and so I thought it about time I went and saw him live, seeing as I’ve been a fan for ages but have never seen him in the flesh.  So I did.

There’s a club night at XOYO called ILUVLIVE that showcases new urban talent, and they decided to start the new year with a bang; recruiting Kano, Ghetts and a load of other people that I should have heard of but hadn’t because I’m far too sheltered for any of that malarkey.  Obviously, the main event was Kano, who played a number of his most recent songs and was absolutely storming it Norman style.  The first song was rubbish though, because he was using this stupid old-style microphone that distorted his voice and made it impossible to hear what he was saying.  Oh well, he got rid of that for the second song, and then he was good.

Then all of a bloody sudden, Wretch 32 (read his Popbitch playlist here) came on stage and they performed a couple of songs together.  This made me happy, and it seemed it made everyone else in the building happy because they went absolutely sodding mental when he came out.  But Wretch wasn’t the only addition to Kano’s set -- Ghetts also added his own brand of Chris Rock-looking high-pitched aggressive rapping to Kano’s more laid back flow.

Also, Ghetts got HENCH.

Then off Kano went and people started to leave, but the crowd engaged their ‘sodding mental’ screaming machines again and he was called back on for an encore. He did actually say that he didn’t have any songs left, so instead he did a bit of freestyling and random verses over a stock beat, and Ghetts came out again and engaged him in some sort of ‘Don’t Forget the Lyrics’ style battle.  Shane Richie didn’t turn up though. Lightweight.

Then he left for real.  There was an open mic competition straight afterwards, in which people from the crowd could go up on stage and do their thang for a minute, with the prize being a chance to perform on stage at the next night.  Unfortunately for the male entrants, somewhere along the way the point of the competition got lost and it turned into a ‘lets cheer for the fittest girl’ contest.  Luckily the fittest girl was actually quite good at singing too, so all was not lost.

And that was that, I went home and went to bed immediately. What a legend I am.
