Song 2, Take 2

It came as no surprise to learn that most of the money that Blur made from Song 2 was from its incessant use in adverts (as opposed to actual record sales) but it wasn’t just money they got out of the deals they struck.

“I seem to remember at the time that Blur – as an incentive to allow the use of Song 2 in the commercial – were offered radar-absorbent “stealth paint jobs” on all of their cars (and Damon’s bicycle?) by the defence contractor Northrop Grumann. Actually, Blur drummer Dave Rowntree got his full pilot’s license in 1995, though it is not clear whether he was offered it for his plane.”
