And so what did we learn from the rather swanky aftershow party (thanks BBC for the extra tickets):

* Last time we spoke to Lee Ryan he still hadn’t had much luck with Lena. Still, full marks for being able to get past her ring of bodyguards to even try.  Later on he seemed more interested in whether Eurovision Deepthroat had any fags he could cadge (obviously not for him, they were for “a friend” we are sure) than any of the pop fluff dancing about.

* Didn’t see this first hand but apparently the Bulgarian entry was looking keen on Simon by the early hours

* Unfortunately we weren’t able to find Duncan or Antony doing anything naughtier than standing around having a drink

* Loose Women’s Denise Walsh was holding court in the corner of the afterparty dancefloor, looking incredibly glam and surrounded by a gaggle of beautiful young boys. And Ken Bruce.

* Latvia’s semi-final failures Musiqq were first on the dancefloor, and apparently last off it.

* Enjoyed drinks with I Can’s co-writer, @Bencolliermusic

* Denmark’s singer is tiny!

* Finland looked confused when he was described by a British fan as  a “poor Jeff Brazier”.

* Sorry one of Jedward for shouting in your ear when you weren’t expecting it and making you jump

* Warm-Up Man looked like he was going to cry when we told him he was Eurovision’s best ever warm-up man.

* The quality of canapes and sushi was astonishing. Ditto the fact that the mini-champagne bottles never looked like running out.

The boys get animated on KidsCo’s show, Boo and Me, which promotes environmental awareness to kids.(Boo is the orangutan).

The band have adopted their own orangutan at the Sepilok sanctuary. Any guesses what they might have called it? Yep, Blue.

The band have always been big on animal welfare and the environment (we don’t need to repeat THAT quote on 9/11 again…). But some more things we learned today include:

* Duncan and Lee drive hybrids.

* They’re trying to help raise money to save orangutans.

* Simon recycles a lot

* Duncan tells his daughter to turn the tap off while she is brushing her teeth.

* Lee says growing up watching He-Man taught him how to swing a sword. Funnily enough we always thought of Lee as a swordsman but not in the He-Man kind of way…

* Simon used to have to pick up litter a lot at school.

        African musicians come to London

    A few months back we wrote about "Benda
    Bilili" - a documentary about a band of
    (mostly) paraplegic musicians from the
    Democratic Republic Of Congo. Well, the
    film is due out this month and we can't
    wait.

    The film-makers Renaud Barret and Florent
    De La Tullaye faced many challenges
    shooting the 5-year documentary on the
    streets of Kinshasa, which are populated
    by assorted 'shegues' (street kids),
    military dealers, hoods and thugs of all
    kinds - none more so than when they were
    thrown in jail for refusing to give in to
    police blackmail.

    The pair were only released when the members
    of Staff Benda Bilili led a pack of storming
    paraplegics to charge the police station
    shouting "Give us back our whites!".

    One of the most surprising things to come
    out of the Libyan uprising is the revelation

         Fingers crossed we're going to Minsk       

    One of Eurovision's greatest charms is that
    it seems to hold a mirror up to the politics
    of Europe. This week was all about the former
    Eastern Bloc. Belarus entered a retro Sov-pop
    track called Born In Belarussia. From listening
    to it you might think that Belarus was a kind
    of isolated throwback to the Soviet era. Oh.
    (Sample lyrics "When I was wearing a star,
    back in the USSR".) And when the Pet Shop Boys
    -style Red Army choir kicks in it attains a
    certain genius. 

    And in Ukraine a vote-rigging scandal has hit.
    (What? In Victor Yanukovitch's ever-more
    regressive, Soviet-style country? No!)
    The final three were recalled for a second
    attempt at a fair final but our favourite,
    Jamala, announced she was pulling out as
    she didn't trust it leaving the original
    "winner" Mika Newton to walk it a second time.
    So now that she has won it fair and square,
    everyone's happy. Everyone except Mika Newton
    who has now decided she might change her song
    anyway.

EEEE MEEE GEEED, SEEMUN WAAARRB IS SEEE HEEEET!!!  Or something along those lines.  Someone might have said at some point.  Either way, this week we’re looking at Simon Webbe for our ‘Bet you didn’t know they were in this’ Monday.

Simon Webbe was in Blue. You know, with Lee, Duncan and Anthony.  Here’s a reminder:

Blue were actually really good and we’re quite looking forward to their upcoming reunion.  But if they split in 2005, what was old Webbe-head up to in the interim?  Well, he released two rather good solo albums and even did the theme tune for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, as well as trying his hand at a bit of acting.  Which is the reason why we’re here of course.

The exact reason is Rollin’ With the Nines - a bloody well good* gangster movie about a rap group called ‘Time Served’ who get all mixed up with drug dealers and what-not.  Simon Webbe plays ‘Too Fine’ -- the person that sparks off the whole sorry affair.  We won’t say why though because it’ll ruin it.  Unless you want us to ruin it?  Do you?  If you do, don’t read the next bit:

You can carry on reading now (but don’t look up).  Simon Webbe isn’t the only recognisable face in Rollin’ With the Nines though -- you’ve got Rodney P, Kano, Dizzee Rascal, Ashheeellleeeeen from Big Brother and even Rhino from Gladiators.  Yep, they’re all in it.

Strange Casting Quotient: 5/10 -- Webbe’s no stranger to urban music, as was demonstrated by his arse-clench of a ‘rap’ at the 2007 MOBO awards.

David Duchovny likes to use his dogs on set. The X Files episode “Hollywood AD” in season 7, directed by Mulder himself, features a cameo from his dog, called Blue.

This isn’t the only Duchovny dog seen on TV – in the first X FIles series Blue’s father appears in the episode “Ice”.

Blue is a Border and Jersey Collie mix and apparently camera shy – in the 2004 film “Best Friend Forgotten” Duchovny used a stand-in dog. He was a German Shepherd mix called Lenny.
