Ben How-ard Rock Cafe
Or something. I'm tired. I saw Ben Howard at the Hard Rock Cafe the other night - you try and think of a better headline. If you haven't heard of Ben Howard, then I suppose I'd better post a couple of songs so that you can get acquainted before I start harping on about someone that you haven't heard of though, hadn't I? httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnxCxHLAqn8&ob=av2e httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8ccDb6n5Wg There, got to know him? Well basically, he's one of these modern singer-songwriter folk singers - you could call him 'nu-folk' if you want, but then you would be an idiot. He's got a familiar sound to fans of artists ...
Young Adult is not actually a terrible title for a movie…
That's because it not only refers to a very childish adult, but also to the section in the bookshop where her books are sold - she's an author of teenage literature you see. So yeah, not that bad a title - it's got a double meaning like most really good movie titles do: Dolphin Tale, Enemy Mine, The King's Speech and Lusty Life #89 - Slide Your Long Loaf into My Hot Oven. But does the film match up to the title? I'd say it's even better. Young Adult is about this hot slut played by Charlize Theron (also a hot slut) ...
Pets With Newt
Nominative determinism has hit American politics at a national level. Newt Gingrich is such a huge animal lover that his latest thing is to get the pets of America to shore up his faltering presidential nomination campaign, check out http://petswithnewt.com Alongside pictures of bug-eyed Republican pooches, The Pets With Newt 2012 site also features a comprehensive run-down of Newt's favourite zoos of the almost 100 that he has visited (San Diego and Omaha are ones he particularly recommends). And before you think this is just another campaign trick, Newt's obsession with animals dates back to the 1950s. Someone ...
2011: A Year in Movies (Part 1 of 3)
At the beginning of the year we ran through a list of films we were looking forward to in 2011. If you fancy it, you can read it here and here. Well, it turns out some of them weren't that great, it turns out some of them were, and it turns out I haven't even seen some of them. Sorry, it's hard to get in all these 'real' movies in between Zombie Nun Hedge-Trimmer Massacre and Revenge of the Mega OctoDog - give me some slack. Let's go through the list and see what went down: The Beaver - Well, good start ...
M & Ms – Mylo and Madeon: A Review
Last week we waxed our teef off about the new kid on the dance scene - Madeon. We also mentioned the old veteran, Mylo. They played at the same night last Friday, and we went to see them. But who was better? There's only one way to find out... FFFAAAAARRRTTT!! FIIIIIIGGGHHTT!!! We'd spent all evening beforehand listening almost solely to Madeon and Mylo, and we'd come to the general consensus that both were as good as each other (although Madeon might have had a slight edge because HE'S ONLY SODDING 17). I was ready for a battle of epic proportions. So I downed ...
Xmas Radio suggestions?
We've been listening to WE7.com Radio a lot this week. They have a Xmas Radio Station which - apart from the one by Christina Aguilera - makes a brilliant change from the Phil Spector or Hanson Christmas albums that e previously had on repeat. Try it here WE7.com has free, personalised radio stations. You put in a genre/band or song title and they come up with a station just for you. We've been enjoying "disco", which has brought to our attention the dance remix of Olivia Newton-John's Xanadu. Not sure if it's the seasonal rum and mulled wine which has helped with liking this ...
