“Weren’t there two versions of ‘When I Fall in Love’ in the top ten at Christmas 1987 – the original Nat King Cole one and the cover by Rick Astley?
“Word at the time was that in order to stop Rick and SAW claiming the number one single at a time when the Christmas number one was still important, EMI re-released Nat’s version to spoil his sales, thus helping their own act – The Pet Shop Boys – beat him off (in the nicest sense).
“I’m having difficulty finding a site to check my memory is correct though.”
