Volunteered for a year, then got a part-time job in the same office, then moved sideways into something full-time still in the same office, then someone got preggo and last month I got her job so now I'm a manager at last and I hope I don't cock it up.

Making a bit of an assumption here, aren't we?

Bought something from a man who worked for a company. He asked me out, we got married, he started his own company selling the same things and I work there now.

At the interview the MD said "why should I give you this job" so I held a knife to his neck. He really like my passion and offered me the job on the spot.

I got drunk in a bar with my old boss, and in an attempt to wangle a promotion told him exactly where the company was going wrong and what I'd do to fix it. He fired me. The next night I got drunk in the same bar and told someone what I'd done the previous night. He laughed, told me I was an idiot and offered me a much better paid job than the one I'd just fucked. The moral of this story is: getting drunk in bars is sometimes a good thing, and sometimes not a good thing.

In a spitting competition.

It was a long and carefully planned process on my behalf, but I'm not ashamed to admit it - I fucked the boss to get my foot in the door, and I continued fucking the boss to work my way up to my current position of Executive Director of 'Terry Davis & Son, Family Butchers'.

I was desperate to get out of Bruss-hell, applied for loads of things and picked up this. After being promoted and my salary going up 40% I've decided to move on. So I might not mong as much. But somehow I doubt it...

Same old shitty luck.

started as a temp and was asked to stay on... then i got pregnant and told them i would only come back if it could be part time and in a new position that i had created... they said yes...

I worked for a company that went under & somebody else bought the remains & one day I got a call asking me to come back to the same job. It was the easiest interview I've had -

Interviewer: Would you like to come & do the same thing, at the same place for the same money?

Me: Yes.

Interviewer: Monday 9am OK.

Me: Yes.

Boredom (and the fact that I spent all of my money in the pub) meant that I left London and moved to a country where I didn't speak the language, and so I ended up doing the only two things which I could do without having to learn Swedish first. Neither of them involve my penis.

wulf 10:51, reply

Well - I saw it advertised in the newspaper. I filled in an application form. Then I had an interview. Then they offered me the job! Weird I know!

That isn't funny though so - I fucked your mum.

tamara_bumpdeeay 10:36, reply

A mixture of luck, graft, being nice to people, being an utter cunt, and appreciating the early stuff, obviously.

Spent around 15 years in the AV industry. I got fed up going around london speaking to pretentious wankers in post-production houses who had brain-dead PA's/receptionists who thought they knew everything about the video industry, because they had fucked every Avid editor in the building - or indeed in the Soho region.

I gave that up 5 years ago and got into my current job - which I love and have some respect for within the industry.

I went for an interview

I left school and worked in record shops for years until a mate got me a job at his office. I ended up working in the online marketing team and I've jumped from company to company in search of web 2.0 perfection, more money, and lots of dossing. But I do find recruit agents are rather crucial in getting a new job, unless you work in the media, in which case you just need to give the right person a blowie.

electrogal 9:38, reply

It started as a bit of a sideline, but so many people wanted to pay me to do it I jumped ship on my previous career and set up a company. Ten years on I'm still here, though now I have minions which allows me to spend all day posting smutty gobshite on mong boards.

One doesn't have a job yet, mummy has to die before I can have one. Mummy is very kind though and pays me to bake biscuits, play farmers and dress up as a soldier.

I played truant a lot and decided that "they can't judge me" this lead me to not take any exams I therefore have no qualifications. Some how I fell in to a job and 20 years later I do not have not much money and a strong belief that I was, and still remain a fucking idiot.

I set up the company. 12 years ago. And I'm still not a cunting millionaire.

I was doing a very shit job, and vaguely knew someone who was doing a much more interesting/more highly paid job. I said I would like an interesting/more highly paid job, too. They said 'come in on your day off and see what it's like'. I did that for a few months, and was offered a job at the more interesting place. I have since been promoted a number of times, whilst the person who first introduced me to the world of the more interesting/more highly paid job was made redundant, very possibly because I took over their position.
